Old Medwyn Mill Bed & Breakfast
Welcome to Old Medwyn Mill, a converted 19th century grain mill, situated on a quiet back road overlooking Tinto, Lanarkshire’s highest hill. Our relaxed, country-house atmosphere assures guests of a warm and comfortable stay in either our double or twin-bedded en suite rooms.
The mill’s thick walls, deep-set windows and quirky design blend with the highest standards of contemporary comfort. Bedrooms are furnished with designer chintz, the comfiest beds, Hungarian goose-down duvets and crisp white linen. Both ensuites have baths with electric showers, thick, fluffy, white towels and quality toiletries. Hospitality trays are generously laden with goodies. Our rooms have either a comfy sofa or arm chairs to relax in but if you really must work, our computer desks make this less of a chore.
Our wonderful Rayburn ensures breakfasts are delicious and succulent. A full Scottish or continental stlye breakfast is always on the menu. We also provide generous packed lunches if you’re planning a day in the fresh air.
Carnwath (1 mile) offers a range of quality places to eat. Biggar and Lanark (10 minutes drive) have an even wider selection, including Indian, Chinese and Italian. We shall be delighted to advise on venues and book a table on your behalf.
Old Medwyn Mill is the perfect base for exploring the beauty spots and other fascinating sights of South Lanarkshire.
Old Medwyn Mill is ideally placed for guests to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities. The Southern Upland Way, The John Buchan Way, The Broughton Heights, The Pentland Hills and The Lowther Hills, as well as a wide network of Forestry Commission tracks afford wonderful opportunities for walkers and ramblers.
The Clyde Valley Walkway is a 40 mile walking and cycling trail that follows the River Clyde from the centre of Glasgow to the Falls of Clyde at New Lanark. Mountain biking is available at several locations, including Glentress near Peebles, which has one of the best dedicated mountain biking centres in Scotland. The Tweed Cycle Way starts in Biggar and finishes on the coast in Berwick-on-Tweed, a waymarked cycle route of 89 miles running through the heart of the Borders with the River Tweed as its linking theme.
Excellent fishing is available on the Clyde, Tweed and their tributaries. Permits are available locally.
Bikers are especially welcome at Old Medwyn Mill and suggestions can always be made for wonderful round- trips through our hills and valleys on a network of exhilarating roads through some of southern Scotland’s most spectacular scenery.
Golfers are spoilt for choice as there are at least six courses within 15 minutes of Old Medwyn Mill. Each one has a character of its own and we shall be pleased to advise you which will best suit your game.
Tinto Hill is one of Scotland’s most popular venues for hang gliding and whether participating or just spectating, a great day out is assured.
In both our bedrooms you’ll find files containing lots more information about things to do and places to see in our area. As we’ve been to most of them, we’ll be delighted to help you plan which ones to visit.
