Hame-ish

Built in 1905, Hame-ish forms part of a Historic Scotland Category-B listed terrace in the tranquil village of Powfoot on the Solway Coast. The current owners have made Hame-ish a second home, now offering you a ‘home from home’ to visit and enjoy. The house is a mixture of old and new, freshly decorated, whilst retaining many original features. It offers spacious accommodation which sleeps 4 – 5 in comfort.
The front aspect offers open views and on-road parking. Across the rear access lane there is off-road parking for one car, leading into the south-east facing garden with flower-beds and patio area. A couple of minutes stroll away you can enjoy beautiful views across the Solway.
Purpose built as a holiday village at the turn of the 20th century, Powfoot offers many attractions, including a challenging 18-hole links golf course, a privately-hired Spa with various pampering/treatment packages available horse/pony riding on the beach and coastal walking.
Powfoot is on and therefore an ideal base for, the Galloway Tourist Route, Solway Coast Heritage Trail, and the Rabbie Burns Trail. The Sustrans Cycleway passes through nearby Annan (3 miles). Amongst the many things to do and visit you will find cycling, fishing, bird watching, potteries, ice-cream factories, picturesque towns and villages, castles, parks and gardens, art museums, galleries and much more.
Hame-ish is a ‘home from home’ standing in a quiet street in the tranquil, rural village of Powfoot, only a stone’s throw from the water of the ‘Pow’ running into the sea at the Solway Coast. There are open views to the front, while, across the rear access lane, the garden catches the sun from early morning till mid-evening. Flowerbeds compliment the gravelled seating area, leading to the patio area with patio furniture and a barbeque available for alfresco dining. After dark, the stars and moon are magnificent on a clear night, with no street lights to spoil the view.
The property offers spacious accommodations for up to five guests, with additional travel cot available at no extra cost.
Leading from the outside front door, through the porch and original stained glass inner door, the downstairs living space comprises two sitting rooms, kitchen and utility room. Upstairs is the family bathroom, one double bedroom, one single, and a room which can sleep one or two guests as required. There is also a forth bedroom/store room for use of the Owners.
The sitting room to the front has ample seating for up to five people. This room has a gas fire, with television, DVD and Freeview available. There are a range of family films and table games for your use. The bookcase has two folders containing information on walks and activities locally and further afield.
The sitting room to the rear also has a gas fire, and seating for up to five between the large comfy sofa and wooden ‘monks’ seat. There is a ‘toy’ box containing many board and card games for your use. This room has a radio/CD player and television for watching DVDs. A range of music CDs are available for your use. This room looks out to the garden.
Through the archway, the fitted kitchen contains a gas hob/full electric oven cooker, microwave and most of the utensils you would find in your kitchen at home. The kitchen table extends to sit all those visiting easily and still has room for a high chair.
The utility room leads to the rear door and contains the fridge freezer and washing machine. There is space here to hang coats and store shoes. There is outside lighting and also a large torch for your use when walking outside after dark.
The hallway is flooded with natural light as you climb the stairs, courtesy of the Velux window in the roof. This leads to the first floor sleeping accommodation and family bathroom.
Decorated in cream to give an airy feel, the spacious double bedroom is a mixture of aged furniture and new, with ample storage space and bedside tables to both sides of the bed.
The second bedroom is flexible and spacious for one or two people, containing a single bed with gazunder single bed for use as required.
The smallest bedroom is cosy for one on the single day-bed. From autumn through to spring the rise and fall of the Solway tides can be seen from this bedroom window.
The clean, bright family bathroom suite comprises WC, pedestal basin, and bath with shower over.
Built in 1905, Hame-ish is a quirky property offering a mixture of old and new. It retains high ceilings and some original cornice and reclaimed fire-places (for display only) in each of the bedrooms. This is balanced with the many modern facilities.
Most neighbours in the village live there permanently, going about their daily lives and, in the Owner’s experience, happy to help the visitor with information about the local area.
The house has oil fired central heating, a combi-boiler and bottled gas to the cooker and gas fires. All bed linen and towels are provided at no extra cost. So, with the beds made, all that’s left for you to do is put the kettle on and relax.
Prices £295- £550 per unit per week.
