Westward is a grand Victorian family house in Helensburgh. The rooms are large, gracious and inviting. The house has a Victorian covered veranda around the east and south side of the house creating the perfect place for relaxing (and unwinding) on a warm evening even if it is raining (vertically!). The south side looks over a beautiful garden to the Clyde Estuary and the hills beyond. Often the peaks of Goat Fell, Arran, can be seen in the distance.

Our rooms form a small suite, 1 double, 1 twin. They are situated on the ground floor and have a shower/wet room adjoining within own small lobby. Both rooms are large and can accommodate an extra bed for those requiring it. They each have facilities for making hot drinks, are provided with tea, coffee and herbal teas and water filtered to a very high standard. We provide a full Scottish breakfast or an alternative including oat or quinoa porridge or rice congee served with your choice of milk or rice milk, fresh fruit and ground seeds. Other milks can often be provided if notice is given. A lot of our produce is sourced locally and if it is important to you please ask what is available in organic/grown free from pesticides at the time of your stay.

Helensburgh is a very pretty small town on the banks of the Clyde Estuary. It was named for the Laird's beautiful wife Helen and built to a Georgian grid. There were more millionaires in Helensburgh at one time than anywhere else in Britain and the quality and variety of homes in the town reflects this. It is the home of 'The Hill House' designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for the Blackie family and of John Logie Baird, inventor of television, who grew up here. It is only 8-10 minutes drive to Loch Lomond, 15 minutes to the Erskine Bridge and the M8 and 50 minutes from Glasgow centre by direct train or by car. Trains run every 30 minutes. We are also only minutes away from Helensburgh Upper Station and one of the great train journeys of the world. A beautiful sheltered day out of constantly changing scenery. There is great walking from the house itself and a huge choice of walks minutes away by car. There is a passenger ferry which will take you to Gourock or Kilcreggan.

There are many restaurants in the town to choose from for lunches or dinner and a very good delicatessen in the square in the centre of the town which makes a large variety of rolls for a packed lunch. It also caters for coffees etc and lunches. If you prefer we can provide packed lunch/es.

Some of the many places accessible for days out:
Loch Lomond, its many villages and boats to Inch Cailloch Nature Reserve where the shy Capercaille are protected.
Glasgow for excellent shopping, Museums, Theatre and Cinema, Ice skating, indoor climbing and dry skiing.
Edinburgh for a similar range of activities, Edinburgh Castle, and much much more.
Stirling Castle, ghost walks.
Inveraray town, Inveraray Castle and the old Gaol.
The Isle of Bute, Rothesay, Mount Stuart. Great Cumbrae.
The Ayrshire Coast and Burns country.
The Trossachs.
Where walking and scenic driving is concerned, we are spoiled for choice here in the foothills of the Highlands and under the Arrochar Alps.
