Rose Cottage is a charming mid-terraced cottage dating back to the 1850's and was built for the artisans of the Estate being the shoemakers cottage and set in a conservation area, to the front of the cottage there is a Scenic Viewing Area enjoying open views to the south over the Tweed and Whiteadder valley's to the Cheviot Hills.
Looking North from the rear garden is the Lammermuir hills , while to the East is the historic border town of Berwick upon Tweed which is 3 miles away.
Rose Cottage is ideally placed for exploring the Borders , North to Edinburgh 35 minutes by train and South to Northumberland with Holy Island , Alnwick and Newcastle an easy drive away. Berwick has changed hands between Scotland and England on numerous occasions because of this there are a wealth of Castles , Fortified Stately Homes and Abbeys to explore including Mary Queen of Scots house at Jedburgh . There are also museums including the Jim Clark Museum and the Scottish Aircraft Museum which has a Concorde which you can explore
For those who would wish to have a more active holiday there is Golf , Fishing, Walking, Cycling, Diving, Stalking and Shooting ,which can be pre-booked on the web or locally.
The facilities within Rose Cottage will ensure that you make the most of your stay there is a lounge /dining room which has a cosy open fire with logs and coal provided a wide screen television with digital free view and DVD player, there is also a stereo system with dab radio, ipod /usb dock and cd player. The kitchen is well fitted with all the necessary utensils including electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher ,fridge freezer etc.
There is a downstairs toilet /shower room and washing machine . There are 3 bedrooms to the upstairs a large bedroom which has a zip twin bed which gives the flexibility of a super king size bed or twin beds , the second bedroom is a small double, and the third is a twin bedded room .The second bathroom has a shower over the bath. Externally there is an old smoke house and enclosed garden with barbecue and sitting area , a detached garage which can be used to store bikes ,a tumble dryer and a car parking place .There is additional parking opposite the cottage in the car park for the scenic viewing area with space for boat parking if you are here for the diving. There is an outside hose to wash down bikes or muddy dogs.
For the golfers there is a 3 or 5 day pass to entitle you to play on 18 courses ,for shooters there is a police approved gun cabinet and stalking/shooting can be arranged. As for the fishing who has not dreamt of catching a salmon from the Tweed .There are also 4x4 and quad biking facilities for the more adventurous.
We are happy to have well behaved dogs stay but would request that you contact us to discuss there requirements and there are some lovely walks from the cottage across farm fields and tracks passing badger dens.
In Berwick there is a mainline train station with direct access to Newcastle and Edinburgh both about 35 minutes away .
