Williamwood Cottage
Surrounded by the fields and woods of Williamwood and accessed by a private drive, the cottages provide the perfect place to relax and unwind in exceptional comfort. Totally refurbished to a very high standard in 2009, they sit in a secluded location amidst gently rolling countryside with long views to Criffel, the Solway and beyond.
Williamwood itself is a very special place. Steeped in local history, it has a particularly relaxing ambience. Painstakingly nurtured by its owners, who are very much “hands on”, it is home to prize -winning cattle, sheep and horses and to Lucy, the Gloucester Old Spot pig. Free range hens roam freely around the farmyard and pet ducks paddle on the loch . In summer you can sit on the jetty and dip your feet in the cool loch, walk around and watch the many birds who make it their home and enjoy a picnic on the banks. If it’s your fancy, the owners would be delighted to introduce you to their much-loved livestock. If it’s not, the nearest you need come to them is to glimpse them over the hedge or through the trees, perhaps at the same time as you hear the geese calling high overhead or the buzzards mewing as they circle the treetops.
At Williamwood we have 3 cottages and each has its own special identity. All are set on the farm and offer quiet secluded times away from the hustle and bustle of busy life. The farm has wood lined tracks, large open fields, a loch and 2 ponds. One of our ponds is so well hidden you could relax there all day with a book and the only company you will have is wildlife and birds, all in abundant supply.
Dairy Cottage is attached to the house and is in the farmyard itself. It is very unique in that if you require we can offer a B& B service with evening meal, and the cottage can be serviced every day. Sleeps from 1 – 4 with the master bedroom having a double bed and the smaller bedroom having a single bed, but has another single if needed.
The cottage is very cosy with tartan curtains throughout, open log fire in the lounge and central heating. There is a TV and DVD if you can stay awake long enough to watch A large spacious bathroom offers a strong and luxurious “rain shower” and a bath. There is a large kitchen with ample space for dining, cooking and relaxing. It is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, cooker/oven and microwave.
This cottage offers all that Williamwood is, quiet, cosy and very welcoming with the added bonus of seeing what’s going on “down on the farm”. The owners have a lovely walled garden and summer house which you at Dairy Cottage are very welcome to use as you please.
Beckhead Cottage as the name suggests sits by a trickling stream and the ambience this creates is very special. You have a lovely garden to enjoy with ample places to play, sit and sunbathe or have a barbiie on the patio. The bird song in summer is very special and in winter you may even see a red squirrel. Inside you can enjoy the comfort of a cosy lounge with open fire and watch the TV or DVD. Centrally heated.
Beckhead has 2 Luxurious Double en-suite bedrooms, one of them a twin bedded room. Both have large “rain showers” in very spacious bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped with integrated washing machine, dishwasher cooker and oven and for that quick snack there is a microwave.
Williamwood Cottage is the largest of our cottages and can sleep 6. There are 2 double bedrooms, one en-suite, and one twin bedroom. From the en-suite bedroom you can wander into the garden through the picture door and breakfast on the lawn if you feel like it.
Williamwood has a log burning stove in a very well appointed sitting room where TV and DVD can be enjoyed with central heating . The kitchen is large and well appointed with integrated appliances. It even has a drying room for your convenience. Surrounded by trees and a lovely garden, it offers peace and seclusion.
All our cottages are newly-refurbished to a very high standard and are awaiting grading. We can provide cots, high chairs, baby baths etc if booked in advance and we will do our utmost to make you stay as enjoyable and relaxing as we can.
The overwhelming sensation is of a very special rural retreat, which offers seclusion and privacy in surroundings tended by owners who care and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. The sunsets can be stunning and the owls the main sound you’ll hear after dark.
Yet you are less than 5 minutes from the motorway 15 minutes from the local town of Annan and within easy reach of Carlisle, Dumfries Gretna Gateway village and the Solway coast. Williamwood offers the perfect place to unwind, whatever the time of year and still be within a short car’s journey of the major amenities and many local activities for children.
