Rhubarb - The Restaurant at Prestonfield

EatScotlands' independent assessor said:

“Rhubarb is a very atmospheric restaurant decorated and furnished in a rich, sumptuous style, with dark sensuous colours and a profusion of candles. Service is discreet and polished. The menu uses only high quality, fresh ingredients, handled with skill and delicacy.”

Confit Duck, Foie Gras, Apple and Walnut Salad
“Very simply presented; a party-coloured rectangular block of duck confit and foie gras with crisp topping, and a small mound of neatly shredded apple and walnut salad. Very fine texture, and full of rich buttery flavour. Very well made.”

Roast Fillet of Veal with Pea and Mint Purée
“The veal was served in thick slices in the centre of the plate, surrounded by quenelles of pea and mint purée , fine green leaves, very thinly shredded green beans and rosettes of air-dried ham. The veal was full of flavour, and the various accompaniments all had good strong flavours.”

Assiette of Rhubarb Puddings
“Three small dishes presented on the one large plate, each with very different texture and shape: a tall, statuesque mousse, low cylindrical spring roll, and a soft mound of Baked Alaska. Given the over-arching theme of rhubarb, the flavours were well-blended and subtly enhanced.”

All are welcome at Rhubarb, couples, families and tourists. We are something of a favourite celebrity hideaway. Our style is pretty grand and formal, yet relaxed. Richly decadent, stylish and very glamorous, Rhubarb occupies two grand Regency oval rooms hidden at the heart of the lavishly restored Prestonfield House. For private functions we have a spectacular collection of individual dining rooms.

Most produce is from small artisan suppliers and our specialities include Skye scallops, Lindisfarne oysters, Black Gold beef, Borders hare and lamb, and our selection of desserts. Our wine list includes no fewer than 14 that are available by the glass.
