The Gathering Place Bistro

EatScotland's Independent Assessor said:
“Situated in the heart of Braemar, in what was once part of the bank, The Gathering Place has been tastefully converted into a very attractive restaurant and welcoming conservatory. Here, you can relax and enjoy a range of local fresh produce prepared, cooked and presented to a very good standard.”
Smoked Haddock Tartlet
“The tartlet was excellent. Light, crisp, golden brown pastry case filled with flakes of smoked fish, bound by saffron scented cream. A good balance between the pastry, cream fish filling and the summer salad.”
Confit of Duck with Cider Braised Red Cabbage and Chive Mash
“A good balance in colour, flavour and textures arrived on the plate. The duck was good quality, well cooked and flavoursome. Excellent creamy chive mash with cider-braised red cabbage enhanced the dish.”
Raspberry Shortcake with Crème Patissiere
“Very good presentation, with each layer of light crisp shortcake being supported by local raspberries and filled with the crème patissiere. Excellent textures, with the sharp, fresh-flavoured raspberries complemented by the rich cream.”
The Gathering Place is a small family run bistro. Owners Sandie and Iain take pride in producing exciting dishes, with locally sourced ingredients, as far as possible. Unlike many local restaurants, we make all the dishes on the premises, including the desserts! Iain is an innovative, classically trained chef, with a wealth of experience gained both at home and abroad, which shows in the quality of the food he produces. Our main menu is updated frequently and we have a daily changing specials board.
All desserts are made on the premises.
