Cairngorm 50K Challenge

Barnardo's Cairngorm 50K Challenge

40 teams will brave a demanding 50k route through some of Scotland’s most stunning natural scenery covering the Cairngorms National Park, Glenmore Forest and Abernethy Forest.

The event registration will take place on Friday 29th August from 4pm where they will receive their team packs, goody bags and t-shirts. There will be two briefings on Friday evening and a pasta party running in the evening giving participants much needed energy for the challenge ahead!

On the 30th August the challenge begins with a 15k hike through the Cairngorm National Park to conquer Scotland’s sixth highest Munro, Cairn Gorm. This hike will take you to the top of this rugged landscape to a height of 1,245m to ‘bag a Munro’. Teams will then head back through the beautiful forest route to The Hayfield for the changeover to the biking section of the challenge.

The 35K bike route will take participants through the breathtaking Glenmore and Abernethy Forests. The majority of the route is on dirt and forest tracks, with very small sections going onto quiet roads.

On completion of the event participants can enjoy a massage and a drink in the bar. The evening prize giving ceremony will be accompanied by a BBQ and live music.

The event has a £100 registration fee which covers our organisational costs, pasta party, BBQ, supplies for participants throughout the route, goodie bags, t-shirts, medals, support and information before the event, emergency support services, air rescue and 4x4 vehicle support throughout the event. On registering, teams will receive a pack containing information about the local area, accommodation, training guides, sponsorship forms, bike hire, fundraising guides and information about Barnardo’s. Participants are asked to raise £450 each in sponsorship or through fundraising which will go directly to fund our work with children and young people facing today’s most urgent issues including homelessness, abuse, bereavement, disability, drug and alcohol dependence and domes
