The monarch of the glen - a majestic red deer stag

The Park offers a broad range of fishing and shooting opportunities within its boundaries.

The area is particularly known for its angling and the Spey and the Dee are two of the finest salmon and sea trout rivers in Scotland, if not the world. Whilst there are some very expensive beats along the rivers, there are still opportunities for fishing on a budget including inexpensive permits for high-quality brown trout fishing on the rivers and a good choice of loch fishing and stocked fisheries.

Whether its stalking roe deer in close woodland, or an exhilarating walk over the open hills in pursuit of a perfect 12-point royal stag, the Cairngorms offer unsurpassed opportunities for stalking.

Similarly there is a range of game bird shooting from the simple, walked up, mixed rough shoot through more formal driven pheasant and partridge shooting, to the king of birds, the red grouse (although be prepared to empty your wallet as well as your gun to shoot this fast flying bird!). Clay pigeon shooting, available at Rothiemurchus and Glenlivet, is a great way to get a feel for shooting, all under the watchful eye of expert instructors.

Tourist Information Centres will be able to help anyone find out about fishing or shooting opportunities in their local area.
