Wet-weather Options
If you come to the Cairngorms and the weather isn't quite what you'd hoped for, don't despair! There's still plenty to see and do.
The Leisure Arena at Aviemore Highland Resort and the Fun House, Colyumbridge are both great places for the children on rainy days. You could go back in time at Ballindalloch or Corgarff Castles or enjoy a distillery tour and a warming dram at Glenlivet, Dalwhinnie or Royal Lochnagar.
The National Park is a big place and it's all too easy to stay in one area whilst you are here. Why not take the opportunity to visit another part of the Park by taking the Heather Hopper which runs between May and September, and connects Aviemore and Braemar via Tomintoul. For a shorter journey you could take a trip on the Strathspey Steam Railway or go on a Landrover safari tour.
Whatever the weather, winter in the Cairngorms is a magical experience. A heavy frost and a clear morning can turn a walk to the shops into something you'll never forget. But if its lots of snow you're hoping for and the slopes aren't open, you can still get a downhill adrenaline rush enjoying the hill-side karting at the Lecht or by taking to a mountain bike. Sled dog rides still go on, as does sledging, on the artificial slope at Glenmore.
Whatever the weather we hope you get the most from your trip to the Cairngorms, even if you only see them through the window, with your feet up in front a fire and perhaps a local dram or two!
