MacDonald Bros Butchers
Just off Pitlochry's main street are the premises of MacDonald Bros, one of the best butcher's shops in the area. It is owned and managed by Rory, who is the third generation to run this family business, founded in 1928. It specialises in quality Aberdeen Angus beef reared on local farms, which has been the shop's hallmark since it first started trading.
The MacDonalds know the farms well and can even trace the beef back to particular animals, so you know you are getting prime quality here. The shop also sells local Scottish lamb and pork, as well as wild venison. The shop's own sausages, pies and lasagnes are famous throughout the area, as is the home made haggis, black pudding and white pudding. People come from far and wide to but the succulent home made steak pies, with their large chunks of juicy beef and crisp pastry topping.
But MacDonald Bros is so much more than a butcher's shop. In 1997 it expanded into the premises next door and now sells a wide range of delicatessen foods, such as cheeses, pâtés, Loch Fyne salmon, ready meals, cooked meats, sausages (including their famous steak and ale sausages, made from local beer) milk, sauces, bread, morning rolls and so much more. And it also sells a select range of beers, wines and spirits, so is fast earning the reputation of being Pitlochry's one stop shop!
All the friendly staff are trained to at least Elementary Hygiene level, so you know the shop has stringent standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
