Aosdana Gallery

From the Gaelic, meaning people of the art, craft or gift, Aosdana is a beautiful gallery and working studio selling contemporary artwork alongside modern and traditional Iona jewellery. Housed in an old farm steading which has been lovingly restored with interior features by Scottish artisans, the building alone is worth a visit. Aosdana is owned and run by local artist Mhairi Killin, whose aim is to combine the historical creativity of Iona with its contemporary equivalent. Aosdana continues the traditional work of Iona silversmiths Alex Ritchie (1856-1941) and Iain MacCormick (1917-1998). This is represented by the extensive range of reproduction designs on display. Inspired by Iona and using local stones, a modern range of jewellery is also on display. Aosdana also showcases some of the best contemporary silver smiths working in Scotland today. The range includes designs by Clare Hillerby, Sally Grant and Grace Girvan all recently shown at Collect and Origin, London. The jewellery is complemented by unique artwork by Mhairi Killin; finely woven sculptures and wall pieces influenced by Scottish archaeology and created using delicately treated metals, wire and paper.
Aosdana offers a truly unique experience on Iona as it combines the historical work of the Island’s past with the present and gives its vistors the chance to enjoy and support the creative energy of the Island.
