Greyfriars Church

Church of Scotland
A richly ornamented Gothic edifice by John Starforth 1868 with plenty of crisply carved detail, all in red sandstone snecked rubble. The steeple dominates both the building and the townscape. The interior is a huge, almost square space, richly decorated. Clustered shafts with leafy capitals support collar-braced and kingpost-truss roofs over the nave and transepts. Stained glass by James Ballantine & Son, Powell Bros, Camm Bros and L C Levetts. Pipe organ 1921 by Ingram.
Sunday Services: 11.00am and 9.30am during summer; Evening Services: fortnightly
