James Melville (brother of Andrew, the leading Covenanter) inspired the purchase of land in 1590 for a new church, but he was exiled by James VI and the church was not built until 1634. Described in 1837 as one of the most elegant country churches anywhere to be seen. Tahitian Princess buried outside the south wall. Many interesting features. Open April to September, Tuesday 2.00-3.00pm, Thursday 11.00am-12.00 noon.
Exceptions: All year coffee morning, Tuesday 10.00am-12.00 noon in Hew Scott Hall (converted 13th-century West Anstruther Church)
