Arrochar

Ben Arthur, also known as 'The Cobbler', the most distinctive of the Arrochar Alps

Information enquiry

With its excellent access by road and rail and close proximity to the magnificent Arrochar Alps, Arrochar is a popular gathering place for mountaineers.

The village is one of the main gateways to the Argyll Forest Park, which stretches from the western shores of Loch Lomond south as far as Holy Loch and provides some of the most grandiose scenery on the Cowal peninsula. Arrochar is a convenient base for exploring the northern section of the park.

The park includes the Arrochar Alps, north of Glen Croe and Glen Kinglas, whose Munros offer some of the best climbing in Argyll: Ben Ime (3318 ft) is the tallest of the range, while Ben Arthur (also known as 'The Cobbler' (2891 ft) is easily the most distinctive. All are for experienced walkers only.

At the other end of the scale, there are several gentle forest walks throughout the park clearly laid out by the Forestry Commission and helpful leaflets are available from local tourist offices.
