Salen

Salen, on the east coast of Mull lies at the narrowest point on the island, halfway between Craignure and Tobermory.
Given its central location, it makes a good central base for exploring Mull. The ruins of the 13th-century Aros Castle stand on the north curve of Salen Bay while at nearby Gruline, the MacQuarie Mausoleum marks the last resting place of Lachlan MacQuarie (1761-1824), Governor of New South Wales in 1809 and generally regarded as the 'Father of Australia'.
