Kylesku

The bridge at Kylesku, Sutherland

Information enquiry

Kylesku, 33 miles north of Ullapool, is the point where a graceful, award-winning road bridge sweeps over the mouth of lochs Glencoul and Glendhu.

Opened in 1994, the bridge replaced a ferry connection and a 100-mile detour via Lairg if you missed the last ferry. Boat trips run to the 650ft Eas-Coul-Aulin, Britain's highest waterfall, located at the head of Loch Glencoul; otters, seals, porpoises and minke whales can occasionally be spotted along the way. The boat also makes regular trips out to Kerracher Gardens, only accessible from the sea - a riot of colour and exotic vegetation in the rugged Highland scenery. There are lots of good walks around Kylesku; one of the most popular is the half-day low-level route along the north side of Loch Glendhu to a picturesque pebble beach.
