Kyleakin

Fishing boats in the harbour at Kyleakin, Skye with Castle Moil behind

Information enquiry

Kyleakin is just over the Skye Bridge and provides a good base for exploring the Cuillin mountains and the rest of the island.

The hamlet of Kyleakin is situated where the monumental (and controversial) Skye Bridge reaches the Isle of Skye from Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland. Be sure to see the Bright Water visitor centre, with its exclusive tours to the wildlife sanctuary on the island of Eilean Ban, home to otters.

There's the ruined 14th century Castle Moil, or else take the A887 to the south-west towards Elgol for outstanding views of the Cuillin. On the way look out for Skye's marble quarries and the track leading to the 'Clearance village' of Boreraig, and the workshop and gallery of Castle Keep, where swords are hand-forged. Boat trips depart from Elgol across Loch Scavaig into the heart of these spectacular mountains.
