Shotts

Information enquiry

Shotts is a former industrial town situated some half dozen miles north east of Wishaw

Shotts was originally an agricultural parish that subsequently grew with the industrial boom of the 19th century. However, the area has a much longer history, playing host over the centuries to various armies including the Romans and Oliver Cromwell. A visit to Shotts Heritage Centre will provide an entertaining illustrated history of the area from its strong Covenanting links, through the growth and development of the coal and iron industries right up to the present day. Take the local history trail, where you can visit Shotts' historic sites and monuments and discover more about the town's role in the country's wider history.

Shotts also has several beautiful churches including Calderhead Erskine Church, the historic Kirk o' Shotts and the ruined Dura Kirk.
