Information enquiry

Motherwell is a town in north Lanarkshire, approximately 12 miles south east of Glasgow.

Across the River Clyde and Strathclyde Park from Hamilton is the former industrial town of Motherwell. Recorded variously as Moydiral, Moydrwal and Materville since the Middle Ages, the present-day name is believed to refer to one of three wells in the original farming community known as the Well of Our Lady - an area of the town is still known as Ladywell.

The town was built on the weaving, coal and steel industries, the growth and decline of which are explored at Motherwell Heritage Centre. Today, Motherwell's greatest attraction is Strathclyde Park and the vast M&D's theme park, with an excellent choice of thrill rides and indoor leisure pursuits.
