Tomintoul

In the foothills of the Cairngorms, snowy Tomintoul is one of the highest villages in Scotland.
Standing at 1150 feet, Tomintoul, on the road between Deeside and Speyside, is one of the highest villages in Scotland. Tomintoul is the best base for the Lecht ski area, which has snow-making machines for when the white stuff isn't in plentiful supply - which it usually is: the road through Tomintoul is often snowed under. In summer, there are also activities at the Lecht, such as go-karting.
Walking is great all around the area, with the Speyside Way and the large Glenlivet Crown Estate providing ample routes. The free local museum is an option when the weather is bad, or if you're snowed in!
