Fettercairn is a distinctive village with an attractive square and striking Gothic arch set below the hills. The main attraction is the stately home of Fasque House, dating from 1809 and home of the Gladstone family (including statesman W.E. Gladstone).
Laurencekirk is the principal town in the Howe o' the Mearns - Lewis Grassic Gibbon country. To the south lies St. Cyrus National Nature Reserve.
