Braemar

Local characters in traditional Highland dress at the Braemar Gathering

Information enquiry

Home to the world famous annual Braemar Gathering (held on the first Saturday in September), Braemar lies in spectacular mountain scenery at the eastern gateway to the highest mountains of the Cairngorms National Park.

There are no less than 24 Munros (mountains over 3000 feet high) in the parish of Braemar. The village is very much a year round holiday destination and the main access point to the ski resort at Glenshee, as well as over 65 miles of high level walks and cycle routes of varying length and difficulty. It also holds the dubious record for the lowest ever recorded temperature in Scotland – minus 27 degrees centigrade.

Braemar Highland Heritage Centre and the tourist infornation centre provide much information about the village and the surrounding mountains, and there are wonderful walks around Mar Lodge Estate and the local beauty spot of Linn of Dee.
