Aboyne is a typical Deeside village.
Twelve miles west of Banchory on the A93, Aboyne is a typically well-manered Deeside village at the mouth of Glen Tanar, which runs south-west from here for 10 miles or so deep into the Grampian hills. The glen, with few steep gradients and some glorious stands of mature Caledonian pine, is ideal for walking, mountain biking or horse riding; the ranger information point two miles into the glen off the B976 has details of suitable routes.
Five miles to the west of Banchory is Kincardine O'Neil, a village on the north side of the River Dee.
