Six miles north-west of the town of Ellon is historic Haddo house, built in 1731 and designed by William Adam, is an elegant mansion. It is the seat of the Marquess of Aberdeen and is home to a perfect collection of James Giles' paintiings.

Newburgh is a village on the Ythan estuary, south-east of Ellon.
