Foula

Foula is a remote island 14 miles off the west coast of Shetland, home to many breeding birds.
Foula's mountainous form rises from the Atlantic, battered by wind and waves, a desolate dot in the ocean. Its dramatic profile is dominated by some of Britain's highest cliffs, reaching 1220 feet above sea level. Its remoteness means Foula is perfect for those who want to get away from it all. The islanders share Foula with Shetland ponies, sheep and many, many birds - the name is derived from the Old Norse for 'bird island'.
