Information enquiry

Just eight miles from the English border, Annan is the gateway to Dumfries and Galloway.

Annan is a town on the north shore of the Solway Firth between Gretna and Dumfries. The history of Annan dates back to the 12th century. Industry revitalised the town, with shipbuilding, engineering and whisky distilling a feature of the 19th century, while the 20th century saw the growth of pharmaceuticals, knitwear and food processing. Famous Scottish writer Thomas Carlyle went to school here.
