Sanquhar

Sanquhar Tolbooth Museum

Information enquiry

Sanquhar is a trim little market town, nestling in the Nith Valley and surrounded by striking scenery.

Jutting out into the main street is Sanquhar's most notable building, the Tolbooth Museum, a handsome Georgian town house with a pedimented facade, a double-side forestair, a square clock tower and finished off with an octagonal cupola. The town's other claim to fame is the bow-windowed shop at 39-41 High Street, which claims to be the oldest working post office in Britain, dating from 1712.
