Auchtermuchty
Auchtermuchty is a small town in north-east Fife, famed in its ancient times for its wild boar.
Seven miles west of Cupar, and four south of Newburgh in north-east Fife, Auchtermuchty was once the site of a Roman camp. Its name however comes from Gaelic, referring to the large population of wild boar in the surrounding swamps and woods that were hunted in ancient times. Today the streets have an olde-worlde feel, with thatched roofs, crow-stepped gables and the red pantile roofs characteristic of Fife.
