Sandhead

Sandhead is a small village on the Rhinns of Galloway overlooking the broad expanse of Luce Bay.
The village developed as a strip village with a smithy and a school by 1850, and the bay was used for landing lime and, later, coal. Today, the main attraction at Sandhead is the beautiful sandy beach, which stretches for more than a mile. The sea is very safe for bathing although, depending on the tide, it can be quite a walk out for a swim.
The area is popular with caravanners, who flock to the three caravan parks ringing the village.
