Achiltibuie

Achiltibuie is a crofting village in Assynt, north of Ullapool on the remote north-west coast.
Achiltibuie lies scattered on the hillside above rocky coast and sandy coves. Boat trips to the Summer Isles are a popular excursion.
The village's main atraction is the Hydroponicum - 'The Garden of the Future' - where you can take a guided tour of its 'climate zones'. Foodies will love a visit to the Achiltibuie Smokehouse, a few miles up the coast, where you can see meat, fish and game being cured traditionally.
The road north from Achiltibuie through Inverkirkaig is spectacular all the way, working its way through a rocky landscape of valleys and moorland, passing the peaks of Cul Beag, Cul Mor and the sugar-loaf-style Suilven.
