Brechin

The 'city' of Brechin is situated on the banks of the South Esk river in rural Angus.
Standing boldly in Brechin is the cathedral (yes, once it was a city) and a classic 11th century round tower - only one of two such towers on the Scottish mainland.
In ancient times the Brechin area was populated by the Picts. Visitors can learn the fascinating story of this Celtic race at the Pictavia visitor attraction, which boasts a mixture of interactive exhibits, replicas and actual artefacts. Pictavia is set in a countryside park at Brechin Castle Centre, which also has a model farm with rare breeds and adventure playground, ornamental lake and nature trail.
On Sundays during the summer, the echo of the Caledonian Railway wakens the town when the locomotives carry passengers between the Victorian Brechin Station and nearby Bridge of Dun.
