Kirkmichael (Perthshire)
Lying a dozen or so miles north of Blairgowrie, peaceful Kirkmichael nestles in Strathardle Glen, beside the River Ardle.
The village is an ideal base from which to explore the stunning surrounding countryside of Highland Perthshire. Walking, fishing, golf, horse riding and a host of other outdoor activities are offer in the area while during the winter months, the ski slopes of Glenshee are only a short drive north.
Although tranquil nowadays, the village wasn't always so lucky. In the early 1650s, Cromwell's troops were billetted - and fought - here, while in the abortive Jacobite rebellion of 1715, clans sympathetic to cause mustered in the village before marching off to join the Old Pretender.
