Troon is a small seaside town overlooking the Isle of Arran in the heart of golf country

Dating from the early 1800s, Troon has many hotels and B&Bs, along with the variety of facilities on the esplanade, which make it a popular holiday resort. The town has an amazing seven golf courses, including Royal Troon, which regularly hosts the Open Championships. The bustling harbour is home to Ayrshire's fish market and yachting enthusiasts can enjoy the facilities of the Yacht Haven, one of the Clyde's leading sailing centres. Troon was home to the passenger terminus for the first railway in Scotland, built to carry coal from Kilmarnock mines to Troon harbour for exporting. Troon is also one of the major ferry ports for Northern Ireland, with routes to Belfast and Larne.
