Rankinston

Rankinston is a small village situated approximately 12 miles south east of Ayr commanding a panoramic view over Ayr, Prestwick, Troon and beyond.
The early history of the village was as a farming hamlet and predates the 1700s. The present settlement developed as a thriving mining community in the 19th century, built to allow the coal miners that worked in the local pits to have housing close to their work. The last mine in the area, Littlemill, closed in 1974.
Although small, Rankinston boasts a big heart with an activity local community who are working hard to develop the village's potential. Rankinston is unique in Ayrshire due to its altitude and offers stunning views from the south plus easy access to diverse wildlife and fabulous walks through mature forestry.
