Ballachulish

Looking over Loch Leven to snow-covered mountains near Ballachulish

Information enquiry

The former slate quarrying settlement of Ballachulish is perfectly situated for exploring the amazing landscape of Glencoe.

The village of Ballachulish is situated on Loch Leven, where it empties out into Loch Linnhe. Here the road hits the sea after dropping down from the awesome drive through Glencoe (or indeed, starts to climb, if you are heading south).

The village is split in two - North and South Ballachulish - on either side of Loch Leven. Until 1955, Ballachulish was the slate capital of Scotland. If you're really interested, you can see the disused quarry nearby.
