Burntisland

Information enquiry

Burntisland is a coastal resort on the Firth of Forth and its fine sandy beach makes it a popular destination for summer day-trippers.

Burntisland is a Royal Burgh and has many fine local attractions including the 12th century Rossend Castle, the 16th-century Mary Somerville's House (named after the pioneer of women's education who lived there in the late 18th century) and the octagonal towered Parish Church, reputedly the first new post-Reformation church in Scotland. During the summer months, the local Heritage Trust holds annual exhibitions and guided walks through the town.

Annual events in the town include a fair, Highland Games, the crowning of the Summer Queen on the Links and the Civic Week parade. There is also a highly rated 18-hole golf course, a popular bowling green, and a leisure centre with a swimming pool.
