Wishaw

Information enquiry

Wishaw is situated 15 miles southeast of Glasgow in Lanarkshire's former industrial heartland.

Wishaw grew rapidly as a result of the Industrial Revolution supplying coal to fire the furnaces that helped make nearby Motherwell's world-famous steel.

The heavy industries have now gone and local attractions include the Sports Centre, with national-standard outdoors athletic facilities, indoor pool and leisure gym, as well as the wildlife haven at Greenhead Moss Community Nature Park. Part of Wishaw Main Street follows the line of the Roman road and it is speculated that Cambusnethan Old Graveyard at Carbarns may have been one of Scotland's earliest Christian burial sites.
