Dunnet Bay

This white sandy beach, stretching for 2 miles, with dunes behind is fairly sheltered from the elements. There is the opportunity to sun bathe, paddle, swim and indulge in other beach sports (with your own equipment). Some quite dramatic surf is produced when the wind is from the north or north west and this area is recognised as one of the best in the country for the enthusiastic surfer.
A Visitor Centre and Countryside Ranger Base is located at the north end of the beach. Here you can find out about what wildlife there is to see and where to see it in Caithness.
The visitor centre is full of interest for all ages and is themed on the wildlife of the local Dunnet area and north coast.
On offer are:
- Varied displays focusing on the plants, animals, birds and marine life of the north.
- Hands-on activities for children.
- Information provided by the countryside rangers on the natural heritage and archaeology of the area.
