Colonsay House Gardens

Colonsay House Gardens

Located centrally in the magnificent island of Colonsay, this 30 acre informal woodland garden is famous for the outstanding collection of species and hybrid rhododendrons and for unusual trees and shrubs sourced from all over the world from the 1930's. These include crinodendrons, eucalypts and the dramatic flame red embothrium. Giant magnolias and gunnera flank the pond and numerous cordylines intersperse with the brilliant orange bark of myrtles to give a subtropical feel. In spring, paths are lined with Himalayan primulas, bluebells and other wild flowers. The walled gardens with their rolling lawns have a more formal feel. A wonderful Dicksonia antartica stands among lomatia, crinodendrons and camellias. Abutilons flower profusely beside an olive and purple daisy olearias. Produce from the organic kitchen garden is available for sale. The cafe serves lunches and teas with home baked local produce.
