The Royal Highland Fusiliers Museum

The Museum of the Royal Highland Fusiliers covers over 300 years of one of the country's oldest and most decorated Regiments (an amalgamation of two famous auld regiments the Royal Scots Fusiliers and the Highland Light Infantry) from its inception in 1678 by the earl of Mar to the present date.
The museum is housed within buildings heavily influenced by Charles Renee Mackintosh who was one of the original architects, the displays are housed in viewer friendly cases, which in the first gallery are divided geographically and include Europe, the Americas, Russia, Africa and Australia. The next gallery covers the history of the Scottish Volunteer and militia movements with some rare examples of uniforms and medals.
Amongst all the militaria is a small gallery devoted to the original owners, the Annan family who were innovators in the field of photography, with artefacts and some fine examples of their work.
The rooms on the second floor and cover the 1st and 2nd World Wars, they include some poignant reminders of the horrors of war as well as examples of the extraordinary courage displayed by the common Scottish soldier during these terrible times.
The Regiment today is also depicted, with items to illustrate its colourful service. Along with the Wilkinson sword of peace (for the work carried out by the Regiment during the aftermath of the tragedy in Lockerbie. Along with modern equipment and artefacts of the Regiments involvement in the liberation of Kuwait and the war in Iraq.
The Museum has a small shop stocking Regimental regalia and memorabilia, as well as some unusual Scottish souvenirs. Historic uniforms and equipment may also be purchased by agreement with the Regimental Secretary.
