Jedburgh Abbey

Jedburgh Abbey

One of the border abbeys, founded by David I around 1138 for Augustinian canons. The church is built in the Romanesque and early Gothic styles and is remarkably complete. Remains of the cloister buildings have been uncovered and finds from the excavations, including the 12th century 'Jedburgh comb' are on display.

The visitor centre and part of the church through the cemetery are accessible to those using wheelchairs but there are steps to the herb garden and cloisters. Interpretation boards are at a good height and there is a video in the visitor centre. There are aromatic plants in the herb garden and a stone display at the west end.

Visitors with disabilities can set down at the abbey door
