Old Scatness Broch & Iron Age Village

'No visit to Shetland would be complete without experiencing the amazing Iron Age Broch and village at Old Scatness'
Old Scatness is Shetland's very own time capsule. It is a broch and village which has been occupied for at least 2500 years. It was completely buried and forgotten about until 1975 when it was discovered by accident.
Excavation began in 1995 and work continued every year until 2006.
Today, you can take a tour of the site with our knowledgeable costumed guides, look around our replica Iron Age and Pictish buildings, and throughout the summer meet craftspeople who recreate ancient skills giving us a much better understanding about how our ancestors lived.
