Prestwick Playground

A play facility for all age groups this play park in Prestwick, birthplace of the Open Golf Championship, can provide hours of entertainment. Built on the site of the Old Prestwick Open Air Bathing lake, there is lots of space for the different age groups to enjoy the amenities. There are swings, sit on toys and a ship with a captain's wheel and chute for the younger children. Climbing frames for the more adventurous and a recently added skate park for older kids. Adults can keep an eye from the picnic tables located on the shore side or sit and look out to the pretty Isle of Arran from the tiered seating area of the remaining from the old bathing lake.
While open Prestwick Open Air Bathing Lake was a popular facility, built in 1931 and closed in 1972, many bathers and spectators enjoyed the facility. It was the largest swimming pool in Scotland and was the only bathing lake in the Firth of Clyde that was up to Olympic standard. The old bathing lake walls around the play park provide a windbreak, and enclose the play area to give pleasant surroundings for picnics.
The stone seals around the play park are used for sitting on or playing on now, however they are also there in memory of the time in the mid seventies when the Prestwick bathing lake was used as a seal sanctuary prior to being turned into a play park.
South Ayrshire Council operates this attraction, which is within a few miles of Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, Burns Cottage, Culzean Castle, Royal Troon Golf Course, Ayr Racecourse, Prestwick Space Place, Prestwick Golf Driving Range and the Prestwick Tennis & Fitness Centre.
