Craigievar Castle

This fairytale castle, which seems to have grown naturally out of the rolling hills, is open to visitors again, after a major conservation project.
This fairytale-like castle, in the care of the National Trust for Scotland, is an example of the best of Scottish Baronial architecture.
The Great Tower stands just as it was when completed by Master William Forbes Danzig Willie in 1626.
The simplicity of its lower towers contrasts perfectly with the turrets, the cupolas and corbelling that embellish the roofline. Within its walls the collection includes an excellent show of family portraits and 17th- and 18th-century furniture. This perfect Scottish castle remains as unspoiled as it was when lived in by the Forbes-Sempill family.
A waymarked walk leads through the policies with beautiful views of the castle and surrounding hills.
