Kelburn Castle And Country Centre

Kelburn Castle And Country Centre

The family home of the Earls of Glasgow, Kelburn has long been an inspiration for adults and a paradise for children. The castle, dating back to the 13th century, still lived in by the present Earl and family, is open to the public in July and August and provides an impressive background to exotic gardens, famous trees and many features of historical interest. The Kelburn Glen with its waterfalls and deep gorges is regarded as one of Scotland's most beautiful woodlands and leads to spectacular views over the islands of the Firth of Clyde.

Children's Activities:

Waterfalls
The Waterfall Pool, set in a spectacular sandstone grotto only 250 yards from the Centre, is particularly popular with children and adults alike.

The Adventure Course
This is a challenging trail of wooden walkways, stepping stones, rope swings and ladders, set out within an existing woodland area which includes a high-wire crossing between two trees, twenty feet apart and fifteen feet off the ground. Adults must accompany children on all parts of the Adventure Course.

The Stockade
A Play area contained within a wooden fort with a raised walkway taking you around the outer battlements. It contains slides, a sand pit, a scramble net and a 20 foot tower which can be climbed from inside by a series of wooden ladders.

Pet's Corner
Kelburn's Pet's Corner contains a variety of different breeds of rabbits and guinea pigs, chickes and other birds, while in the outer paddocks, you can visit sheep, goats and Vietnamese pot bellied pigs.

Play Area
In the Play Area on the low flat ground beside the Pavilion, there a number of exciting wooden play features, including a rope bridge and a 'death slide'.

Indoor Soft Play Room
In the Soft Play Room, there is a ball pool, a plastic climbing frame, creative soft blocks and several other play things suitable for children under six years old.

The Secret Forest
Kelburn's most original and popular feature attracting children and adults alike is 'The Secret Forest', a complex of paths and raised walkways cut through a wild wood, in which you may discover a Secret Grotto, a crocodile pool, the Maze of the Green Man, a Castle with No Entrance, a Chinese Garden, a Gingerbread House, a secret passage leading out of the Woodman's cottage, a 25 foot high pagoda or a hundred other surprises.
