Lochleven Castle

Lochleven Castle

A late 14th or early 15th-century tower on one side of an irregular courtyard. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned here in 1567 but escaped the following year.

Unfortunately, the ferry to the island is not equipped to carry passengers in wheelchairs. Water levels and weather conditions may make access
difficult for visitors with limited mobility. Access to the interpretation boards, the castle forecourt, inner and outer courtyards along with their grounds/gardens is over grass and are suitable for visitors using wheelchairs or with limited mobility.
The Glassin and Main Towers are not accessible due to a flight of stone stairs and two turnpike staircases. Visitors can enjoy the fragrance from the large beds of pink purslane in the south and east wooded walks from April to July.
