Thornielee Forest
Thornielee wood is part of Tweed Valley Forest Park and can be found around 3 miles east of Walkerburn.
Thornielee is a small wood providing a variety of walks ranging from gentle strolls to more strenuous climbs.
The wood is situated close to the main A72 and this combined with good parking facilities and wonderful views make it a popular stop off for people breaking their car journey.
It's an important location for wildlife and the grassy slopes below the car park are a hotspot for butterflies such as the Small Copper and the Northern Brown Argus.

You'll find three waymarked walks at Thornielee:
- Meadow Trails (0.6 miles/1 km, grade: all-abilities, allow 15 mins)
- Meg's Trail (1.7 miles/2.7 kms, grade: moderate, allow 45 mins)
- Cairn's Trail (2.8 miles/4.5 kms, grade: moderate, allow 1 hr 45 mins)
And while you're here, find out more about Muckle Mouth Meg! Legend has it that Meg (Lady Agnes Murray) had problems attracting men due to her big mouth. An imprisoned cattle rustler was given the option of hanging or marrying her. He made his final decision to marry her on his way to the gallows!
