Kirkhill Forest

Kirkhill Forest

Kirkhill is a working forest which really has something for everyone! There are waymarked circular walks, a permanent orienteering course, a horse trail and a cycle trail as well as Trail Quest - a kind of cycle orienteering! There are great views to the north east from the summit of Tyrebagger Hill, and a whole network of forest roads and tracks for you to explore.

The main entrance is less then 5 km from the outskirts of Aberdeen - a real "green lung" for the city. This wood is very popular with walkers, horse riders and especially with cyclists. To try to avoid conflict, we have waymarked different routes. There is room for everyone on the wide forest roads, but on the narrow trials cyclists and horse riders should avoid using the waymarked footpaths, clearly marked by either a banded post or a footprint with an arrow. These paths are vulnerable to erosion from wheel and hoof marks and are dedicated to walkers only.
