Farragon Hill

Farragon Hill translates from the Gaelic as `St Fergan's Hill` and is a distinctive feature overlooking Strathtay and the expanse of high heather moorland that stretches west from Pitlochry to Schiehallion. At 2559ft (783m) Farragon Hill is classified as a Corbett. (A Scottish hill between 2500ft (762m) and 3000ft (915m) in height)
Statistics aside, it is an interesting hill providing a beautiful walk, a craggy summit and good excuse to visit one of the lesser known corners of Highland Perthshire.
The neighbouring hill, Meall Tairneachan (`Hill of Thunder`), is also a Corbett and the two can easily be climbed together in one day. The mineral barytes is mined in the area and several mines and access tracks are visible high in the hills.
These hills can be climbed from a start point (mining track through the forest) off the B846 approximately 8 miles/13km north west of Aberfeldy. When parking please show care and consideration to other road users.
